Director
General's Message
We welcome you to our
website.

Zambia Wildlife
Authority (ZAWA) is a corporate body
established by the Act of Parliament,
Zambia Wildlife Act No. 12 of 1998 to
conserve the wildlife national asset.
Through its human and other capital
resources, ZAWA thrives to achieve
excellence in wildlife estate management
by developing innovative approaches and
partnerships that encompass best
practice, and complete transparency and
integrity.
ZAWA has long history
of local community participation in the
wildlife management. Community Based
Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) has
been adopted as a strategy for
sustainable wildlife management and
contributes to poverty alleviation and
improved household food security. Within
the framework of Public Private
Partnerships, we continue making strides
in facilitating local community
participation in wildlife management,
alongside working with private sector.
We remain committed and resolved to
facilitating sound utilisation of
wildlife revenues as a vehicle for rural
development and sustainable livelihoods
among the local communities in wildlife
producing areas. Likewise, hunting
outfitters are closely working with us
to contribute to rural development.
We, uphold
the importance of research in wildlife
management and encourage focused
research that will ensure that
management actions are used as
experimental tests of our understanding
of the systems managed and that as a
result, research inquiry will be
directed towards questions of management
significance. This website has
highlighted some areas of research that
are under implementation with ZAWA
support. There is also a site for the
research policy to guide you further!
ZAWA would facilitate any partnerships
of value with local and international
research / academic institutions on
research and monitoring.
We, at
ZAWA, are resolved to providing
appropriate information to the general
public and our esteemed clients on the
Zambia Wildlife Authority. We will
continue to do so in a visionary manner
with complete transparency and
integrity.
In order
to translate the identified tourism
potential in our key wildlife estates,
ZAWA is closely working with the
government to create tangible
opportunities for wildlife based tourism
investment. Opportunities exist in many
of the Zambia’s protected areas, notably
in Kafue, South Luangwa, Nsumbu and
Mosi-oa-tunya National Parks. Currently
there are more than 27 sites requiring
development. Relevant information can be
found on the specific site for
investment opportunities available on
our website. Our wildlife estates offer
a diverse tourism products ranging from
game drives, sight seeing, water based
activities, safari hunting to fish
angling among others and are safe areas
to visit, with high level of
tranquillity.
ZAWA
is grateful to its cooperating partners
for the support received, without which
it would have been very difficult to
accomplish the great tasks that it
executes. The areas of support with the
respective sponsors have been given on
this website and include areas of
emergency resources protection, capacity
building, infrastructure development,
research, monitoring and planning.
We will be
delighted to receive your feed back, so
we can serve you better. Enjoy
yourselves interacting with us and our
wildlife estates.
Thank you.
