Isangano National
Park
Size and Landscape
Isangano National Park was declared by
the President of the Republic of Zambia
by a Statutory Order number 44 of 1972.
The Park covers an area of 840 km2 is
situated in the Luwingu and Kasama
Districts.
The physical features of the Park are
largely flats and flood plains. The
Chambeshi River marks the eastern
boundary while the Lubansenshi River run
through the middle. The western
flood-plain area forms part of the
Bangweulu flats. Erythrophleum –
Pterocarpus woodland with tall grass and
watershed plain grassland predominate
the Park. There are some areas of
Papyrus and Phragmites along the two
major rivers.
Habitat and animal population
Among the mammals sighted in the park
include elephant, zebra, buffalo
hartebeest, roan antelope, eland,
reedbuck bushbuck, hippopotamus and
warthog may occur but not in abundance.
